PLANNING & COMMUNITY SERVICES DISASTER MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR

Requirements:

• Relevant tertiary qualification preferably in Disaster (Risk) Management
• 3 – 5 years’ experience in the field of Disaster (Risk) Management
• DMISA Registration: Technician
• Computer Literacy: MS Office
• Code B Drivers’ License

Functions:

• Develop and update the Municipality’s disaster management plans and policies
• Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify potential hazards
• Organize and lead disaster preparedness drills and simulations
• Serve as the primary point of contact during disaster events
• Coordinate emergency response efforts with the relevant departments, agencies and organizations
• Establish and manage emergency operations centres (EOC’s) during disasters
• Ensure timely and effective communication with the public and media
• Develop and implement recovery plans to restore normalcy post-disaster
• Identify and implement measures to reduce disaster risks and vulnerabilities
• Conducting inspections of structures and facilities with a view to establishing the adequacy of preventative measures, mitigating strategies and procedures
• Identifying deficiencies with respect to the preparedness
• Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including other spheres of government, government agencies, Non-governmental organisations (NGO’s) and community groups
• Monitor and evaluate the implementations of disaster management plan and activities

Recommendations:

• Fluent in two of the three official languages of the province
• Computer literate in MS Word / Excel / Outlook
• Able to handle conflict and social trauma
• Protocol and business ethics
• Able to work under pressure
• Time management
• Good communication skills
• Must be adaptable due to interaction with different situations and people at all levels
• Administration skills

Remuneration: T12

(R376 270.68 - R488 420.28) Per annum, plus normal fringe benefits

• Rekenaargeletterdheid: MS Office
• Kode B Bestuurslisensie

Funksies:

• Ontwikkel en dateer die Munisipaliteit se rampbestuurplanne en -beleide op
• Doen risikobeoordelings en kwesbaarheidsontledings om potensiële gevare te identifiseer
• Organiseer en lei rampgereedheidsoefeninge en simulasies
• Dien as die primêre kontakpunt tydens rampgebeure
• Koördineer noodreaksiepogings met die betrokke departemente, agentskappe en organisasies
• Vestig en bestuur noodoperasiesentrums (NOS's) tydens rampe
• Verseker tydige en effektiewe kommunikasie met die publiek en media
• Ontwikkel en implementeer herstelplanne om normaliteit na 'n ramp te herstel
• Identifiseer en implementeer maatreëls om ramprisiko's en kwesbaarhede te verminder
• Die uitvoer van inspeksies van strukture en fasiliteite met die oog op die vasstelling van die toereikendheid van voorkomende maatreëls, versagtende strategieë en prosedures
• Identifiseer tekortkominge met betrekking tot die paraatheid
• Bou en handhaaf verhoudings met sleutelbelanghebbendes, insluitend ander regeringsfere, regeringsagentskappe, Nie-regeringsorganisasies (NRO's) en gemeenskapsgroepe
• Moniteer en evalueer die implementering van rampbestuursplan en -aktiwiteite
