APPLICATION FOR REBATES ON PROPERTY RATES FOR SENIOR CITIZENS 2026/27

PLEASE NOTE: Any rebate granted is subject to approval of the 2026/27 Budget.

In terms of Section 15 of the Municipal Property Rates Act, Act 6 of 2004, a Municipal Council may grant a rebate on all rateable property which is owned and occupied by persons who belong to a particular class or category determined by the Council.

Senior Citizens – 60 years and older:

Income: R0 to Unlimited            Per annum (20% rebate)

In order to qualify for a rebate:

1. Applications must be submitted annually on or before 30 June 2026
2. The applicant must be the registered owner or joint owner of a single residential property with only one dwelling unit.
3. The applicant must reside on the property.
4. The applicant must be 60 years or older by 1 July 2026.
5. In the case of joint ownership (spouses), at least one owner must be 60 years or older as by 1 July 2026
6. Where the property is registered in the name of a Trust, the applicant must reside on the property.
7. Applicants who qualify for a Masakhane Rebate are not eligible to apply for a rates rebate.
8. All Masakhane rebate beneficiaries will receive a property valuation rebate of R250,000 (R15,000 in terms of the MPRA plus an additional R235,000).
9. A 20% disability rebate on property rates may be granted to qualifying households, provided that the household does not already benefit from the indigent support programme or the R250,000 valuation rebate.
10. A certified copy of the owner’s identity document must accompany the application.

Applications must be submitted on the prescribed form, which can be obtained at the following places:

AANSOEK OM KORTING OP EIENDOMSBELASTING VIR SENIOR BURGERS 2026/27

LET WEL: Enige korting wat toegestaan word, is onderhewig aan goedkeuring van die 2026/27 Begroting.

Ingevolge Artikel 15 van die Wet op Munisipale Eiendomsbelasting, Wet 6 van 2004, mag ’n Munisipale Raad ’n korting toestaan op belasbare eiendom wat besit en bewoon word deur persone wat tot ’n bepaalde klas of kategorie behoort soos deur die Raad bepaal. Die volgende voorwaardes is van toepassing vir die toestaan van die korting.

Senior Burgers – 60 jaar en ouer:

• Inkomste: R0 tot onbeperk per jaar         (20% korting per jaar)

Om vir ’n korting te kwalifiseer:

1. Aansoeke moet jaarliks op of voor 30 Junie 2026 ingedien word.
2. Die aansoeker moet die geregistreerde eienaar of mede-eienaar wees van ’n enkele residensiële eiendom met slegs een wooneenheid.
3. Die aansoeker moet op die eiendom woon.
4. Die aansoeker moet 60 jaar of ouer wees teen 1 Julie 2026.
5. In geval van gesamentlike eienaarskap (eggenote), moet ten minste een eienaar teen 1 Julie 2026, 60 jaar of ouer wees.
6. Waar die eiendom in die naam van ’n trust geregistreer is, moet die aansoeker op die eiendom woon.
7. Aansoekers wat vir ’n Masakhane-korting kwalifiseer, kom nie in aanmerking vir ’n eiendomsbelastingkorting nie.
8. Alle Masakhane-kortingsbegunstigdes sal ’n eiendomswaardasiekorting van R250 000 ontvang (R15 000 ingevolge die MPRA plus ’n addisionele R235 000).
9. ’n 20%-gestremdheidskorting op eiendomsbelasting kan aan kwalifiserende huishoudings toegestaan word, mits die huishouding nie reeds voordeel trek uit die Masakhane-korting ondersteuningsprogram of die R250 000-waardasiekorting nie.
10. ’n Gesertifiseerde afskrif van die eienaar se identiteitsdokument moet die aansoek vergesel.

Aansoeke moet op die voorgeskrewe vorm ingedien word, wat by die volgende plekke verkrygbaar is:
